What You Need to Know Before Going on Your Ski Trip

What You Need to Know Before Going on Your Ski Trip

Sometimes there is nothing better than the scenery and adventure that come with a ski trip, whether you’re hitting the slopes for the first time or you’re a seasoned pro. But in all the excitement that comes with planning, it can be easy to forget things here or there, such as booking a great hotel room. Taking the time to properly prepare for your ski trip can not only help your trip go smoothly, but it can take away some of the stress that comes with planning a trip.

If you’re looking to plan your next ski trip in Alberta or British Columbia, we’ve broken down some of the key things you need to know before booking!

Book Accommodations Early

When planning your ski trip, one of the first things you should look for is accommodation, as hotels and ski resorts can book up quickly. There are lots of great options when it comes to accommodation, from ski-in/ski-out condos right on the mountain to comfy hotels, such as Kanata Inns, that provide a great place to relax and unwind after a long day of skiing. Booking your accommodation early is a great way to start planning your ski trip, as it will allow you to know where your home base will be. From there, you can buy your ski lift tickets and plan for any other activities that you plan to do while you’re in the area, such as a local hot spring or brewery.

Get Your Ski Gear Organized

Next on your list when planning your ski trip is to organize your ski gear. If you own skis and ski boots, then make sure they are in good shape so that you won’t run into issues with them once you get on the mountain. If your gear needs a tune-up, try to get that done before leaving on your trip, or see if the resort you’ll be skiing offers tuning and repairs. If you don’t own any ski gear, consider looking into rentals. Most ski resorts offer equipment rentals that you can pick up once you arrive, use for the duration of your ski trip, then drop off before you head home. This is a great, inexpensive option if you’re new to skiing or don’t ski often.

Plan Lessons Before You Go

If you’ve never skied before or are new to skiing, it might be a good idea to book yourself some lessons before leaving for your trip. Ski lessons are a great way to gain experience on the slopes while learning from a professional and can help set you up for a great experience once you’re out on your own. Lessons are also a great way to familiarize yourself with an unfamiliar mountain and get a good idea of which ski runs and areas you’d like to explore more once you’re on your own.

Always take some additional time to research whatever mountain you plan to ski on so you can familiarize yourself with the different ski lifts and where you might be able to find food and drinks after finishing the day. Many ski resorts have on-mountain villages that boast bars, restaurants, and pubs that are great spots to regroup with friends at the end of a long day on the slopes.
