With the forestry industry playing such a huge role in the development of Whitecourt, the town invites visitors to learn more about forestry, as well as the Indigenous history of the land. The Forest Interpretive Center & Heritage Park boasts several antique, preserved buildings to explore, including a little white church, and the area itself is surrounded by paved walking trails and beautiful forests. The multi-media museum and gallery look at the relationship between the Indigenous people and the forest, the local economic impact of the forestry industry, the effects of settlement on the forest, and the issues surrounding development in forests today. Go On a Snowmobile Tour
If you happen to be visiting Whitecourt during the snowy winter months, then a snowmobile tour should definitely be on your list of sightseeing things to do. The Whitecourt Trailblazers Snowmobile Club is a not-for-profit group that was founded in 1979 and is made up of several volunteers who dedicate their time to the club. The group currently maintains close to 485 kilometres of trail in the Whitecourt area, so if you own a snowmobile or can rent one, then bring it along and explore everything Whitecourt has to offer!
Fish the Athabasca and McLeod Rivers
Due to its proximity to both the Athabasca and McLeod rivers, Whitecourt is a great spot for fishing enthusiasts. Both rivers are accessible by both power boat and canoe, so you can spend a relaxing morning or evening trolling the waters for a catch. The rivers boast Walleye, Rainbow Trout, Pike, and Whitefish, which make for a great fishing experience. If you’re looking for a good spot to launch onto the Athabasca River, be sure to check out Riverboat Park and the Blue Ridge Recreation Area.
