Although Kelowna (and the Okanagan as a whole) is generally known for being one of the best locations in Canada for wine, there’s so much more to it than just that. Here are a few important Kelowna tips when visiting the region to get the most out of your stay.
Inside Kelowna Tips for Okanagan Lake
One of the best lakes to do most anything on in the BC interior, Okanagan lake can be accessed from a variety of beaches lining its shores.
On the Kelowna side of the lake, there are two main beaches most people gravitate towards:
- Kelowna City Park
- Boyce-Gyro Beach
Both of these offer the most in terms of activities for kids and adults of all ages, but City Park is typically the busier of the 2, but it also has many other park features as well like a water park for kids, large grassy fields, and both tennis and basketball courts.
Myra Canyon Trestles Hiking and Biking
Another local gem is the Myra Canyon Trestles. Initially built for the railway, the track has long since been removed and repurposed as both regularly maintained hiking and biking trails. Now you can explore the massive carved-out caves and walk along the many expansive trestles that line the trail.
If you don’t have your own bike to bring no problem! Bikes can be rented at the start of the trestles so you don’t even have to lug your bike up the mountain.
Knox Mountain Trails
One of the main hiking spots in Kelowna, Knox mountain offers dedicated trails for both hiking and biking. If you just want to go for a nice walk along the edge of the lake and back, the Paul’s Tomb trail is your best option for sights and relaxing.
For those who want more of a challenge, the Apex hike offers both some stunning views and a good workout as well. The Lochview trail is also a good hike for those who want to get their heart pumping.
Of Course, Still Explore the Wineries and Breweries
Naturally, Kelowna is ripe with wineries, so it just makes sense to make them a part of your vacation. We recommend checking out Vibrant Vines and Summerhill Pyramid Winery to start.
However, don’t neglect checking out the breweries in the area as well. There have been many Kelowna breweries that have opened up in the last few years, including Red Bird Brewing and Rustic Reel Brewing. Both have excellent craft beers to choose from so we recommend getting a flight and finding out what you enjoy most.
There are plenty of things to see and do in Kelowna, but following our inside Kelowna tips, you’re sure to have the best experience possible at each of these activities.
